The book has a good introduction to the terminology and the course is well-designed for IT professionals. I definitely recommend.
I think it doesn't matter if you are going to read the book or course first. However, if you are not familiarized with the terminology used or if you are a beginner on ITSM, I recommend the book - it will give you a good overview.

The online course is professional presented and well done. I found it easy to follow and learn from. The one problem I experienced with the online curriculum was quickly resolved after contacting the help desk by email. The book on the other hand is not well prepared in the Kindle version. Graphs, charts etc are unusable-the printed format is not accurately carried over, thus rendering the material unreadable/unusable. I concur with other reviewers that completion of the online course should be accomplished first; the book should be used for review and reference. All-in-all the course was worth the price; I fully expect to pass the certification exam on the first attempt.

QUICK SUMMARY: I bought this "Complete Certification Kit" on the strength of others' reviews, most of them 4- or 5-stars. Having read the book and gone through the online course, I think the kit is sufficient to help someone pass the ITIL V3 Foundation exam. However, this material is so dry, both the book and the online course, that I read and watched in very short clips to muddle through it. I recommend you look for alternatives to this course.
WHAT I LIKED:
- Having the companion guide for the online course helps put it altogether
- The online course has some handy PDFs for printing and studying
- I like the sample questions (book and online course); it builds confidence before the exam
- The materials are, I think, sufficient to the task of exam preparation
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
- The book was in need of editing! A surprising number of typos and omissions are in the book.
- The book's written material wasn't perfectly aligned with some of the charts used in the book.
- The online course was, frankly, very boring to sit through. My eyes glazed over several times.
- The narrator kept using the word "actually" throughout the entire online course, which made the presentation almost unlistenable. Yes, it was really that bad!
- Too few attempts at making the material come alive, and when an attempt was made, it was poorly executed.
- The online slides were both repetitive and unimaginative. The underlying technology used, Adobe Captivate, has much more capability than what was used.
CONCLUSION: The concept here is great, but the execution feels like a two-man show, where neither person was adept at either editing a book or producing an online course. If it were done by a couple of college students, and if they offered this all for $40, I'd say it was a good value. Clearly, my opinion runs against the grain of how others have reviewed this course, so the materials seem to resonate with many others. However, if I had to do it over again, I'd look to just buy a single ITIL book -- no recorded, online course -- and save myself $50.
