Cirque Du Freak series
Love love love this vampire-based book series. I am a 58 year old female, however, I have always enjoyed "boy" type, action based fiction books as a reader. What I found about the entire Cirque Du Freak series, however, was that it was not JUST about being a vampire, or a member of a Freak Show. It teaches about loyalty and friendship; what a real 'family' is, even without the blood-relation.
In fact, I was so smitten with this series (Mr Shan, are listening?), that I made a gift of all my books to a then 11-year-old friend, because I was confident there was little to no swearing of any consequence, no real sexual content, but a good wholesome and fun teaching story definitely well-worth my time and my young friend's.
Hours and hours of good reading fun and miles of smiles afterward. I cannot wait to read more from Darren Shan.
really not a better sequal
darren is getting more stupid. the charm of the first book is gone. dont bother with the third book. it is even worse. darren is just a simple idiot!
book
bought for my 10 yr old daughter who loves to read. She enjoyed this book and is reading the series.
vampire difference!
not your ordinary vampire book. it's full of different characters other than the main vampire. plus it chronicles life of a teenager and not so ordinary life for him. plus the fantasy nature is great! I recommend for anyone who likes a mystery and something unusual!
Perhaps held my attention slightly more than book 1
It held my attention enough to read all three of the first trilogy- the three are connected - can't really just read one and expect to have a whole story. Each book feels like a chapter in a larger story. I think the central character's character lacked sufficient character for me to care about him. And frequently there was a bleakness without ambiance... it just felt like a dry read that I forced myself to finish because I bought all three of the first trilogy at the same time and was curious to see if I ever came to care about the story. But I left if with no desire to carry on with this writer.
